Abbell Credit Corporation and its previous entities, including most prominently Abbell Investments, began in Chicago in the 1940s. Maxwell Abbell & Co. began first as an accounting firm, and then expanded to include a law firm; both firms ultimately were combined into a single real estate investment management company. The following list provides a history of the hotels, office buildings, shopping centers and bowling lanes that were purchased and syndicated to investors by Maxwell Abbell and Joseph J. Abbell.

Currently managed by the second and third generation of Joseph Abbell's family, Abbell Associates and Abbell Credit Corporation continue the strong family tradition of careful real estate ownership and management.
