Oakland Plaza Shopping Center

Oakland Plaza is a well located, Target anchored, open air center, positioned at the “A” retail intersection in Dekalb, IL. Dekalb is home to Northern Illinois University, and the county seat of Dekalb County, which has a population over 104,000.

The Landlord, a past client and owner of shopping centers throughout the Midwest, requested leasing assistance to better leverage the strong fundamentals of the project. Rather than battle adjacent centers by lowering rents and spending increasingly more allowance funds for relocations of existing tenants in the market, we focused on new-to-market brands. We have since signed Buckle to a 7,170 sf space and Hallmark Gold Crown to another large shop, and have a 50k + sf national anchor under negotiation for the west side collection of Jr. anchors. Additionally, we’ve pivoted the marketing of the multi-tenant outlot to a search for a single use restaurant retro-fit and have interest from a national brand. All the new activity are brands coming into the Dekalb market.
