Liz Holland

Chief Executive Officer

Liz Holland is the Chief Executive Officer and General Counsel of Abbell Associates and Abbell Credit Corporation. Liz is responsible for overseeing all business and legal matters, including development, financing, leasing, capital and construction projects, and investor and tenant relations.

Active in the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC), Liz served as a Trustee (2004 -2010 & 2015-2018); the first Vice Chairman (2015-2016); and Global Chairman (2016-2017). In addition to ICSC, Liz is also a member of the Urban Land Institute (ULI) – Commercial & Retail Council – Blue.

In February 2017, Liz became a Trustee of Federal Realty Investment Trust (FRT). In January 2018, Liz joined the Board of VICI Properties, Inc. (VICI), an experiential, gaming and hospitality real estate investment trust. In addition, Liz is the Chairman of the of the Board of the James Campbell Co. LLC, and a Director of the Village Bank & Trust – a Wintrust Bank.

Jim Sutphen

Chief Operating Officer

Jim Sutphen currently serves as Partner, Director of Development and COO for Abbell Associates. Jim is responsible for overseeing all in-house and third-party development and construction activities as well as day-to-day property management services for a 3MM square foot portfolio of retail and office projects in the Midwest and Colorado. Third-party development and construction projects include a Junior-anchored shopping center in Toledo Ohio and a neighborhood shopping center in Denver, Colorado. A recently completed project was the complete redevelopment of a 100,000 square foot industrial building in Chicago into 65 individual for-lease prep kitchens. Other ongoing development and construction projects include the continued redevelopment of a super-regional mall in Des Moines, Iowa and a 20-acre retail project in Toledo, Ohio.

Over the past 37 years, Jim has held a variety of positions within the real estate industry. Prior to his current role at Abbell Associates, Jim served as Vice President of Construction for the Midwest for Regency Centers Corporation, a publicly traded REIT where he oversaw the development and construction of several million square feet of new developments and re-development projects in the Midwest.

Before joining Regency, Jim served as Vice President of Construction and as Vice President of Property Management for Joseph Freed and Associates, a large privately held real estate development company based in Chicago. Jim is a 1986 graduate of the University of Illinois and received his CRRP designation from the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC). In addition, he served eight (8) years on the ICSC Centerbuild Conference Program Committee.

Tom Walsh

Senior Vice President Leasing

As Partner, and Managing Broker, Tom oversees all internal and third-party retail leasing activity. Tom is a highly accomplished leasing veteran, with extensive industry relationships, and far-reaching experience executing leasing plans for open air, lifestyle, urban, mall, and mixed-use properties throughout the country.

Tom has worked with a broad spectrum of national anchors, as varied as Target, Amazon, Ross, TJX, Zara, Puma flagship, Petco, Fresh Thyme Market, Bob’s Furniture, Ashley, Burlington, Old Navy among many others. Specialty retail deals include Ann Taylor, Eileen Fisher, Buckle, Disney, LBrands, Hot Topic, Steve Madden and many more. Restaurant and entertainment work includes diverse brands such as Flix Brewhouse, Starbuck’s, Jamba Juice, Flat Top Grill, Long Horn Steakhouse, California Pizza Kitchen, Putting Edge and Laser Quest to name a few.

Tom also has deep experience working with emerging local brands in the retail and hospitality sector.

Tom also partners with Joe Sauer on select third party tenant representation assignments.

Tom is a graduate of Drake University, holds the Certified Leasing Specialist (CLS) and the Certified Retail Property Executive (CRX) designation from the International Conference of Shopping Centers, and is the Managing Broker for Abbell Associates, LLC

Joe Sauer

President of Retail & Technology/Broker

As a licensed real estate broker for over 25 years, Joe navigates leaders through urban and suburban environments, working with everyone from Fortune 100 companies to rapidly expanding retail chains. His goal is to build dynamic teams and help them reach their full potential. Joe spearheaded the new urban expansion program for a Fortune 100 retailer and has worked with select collection of national, regional and local retail and hospitality brands.

Joe is also an active member of the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) and support the Eisenberg Foundation.
